Featured Boston’sh Artist: Alex MacLean

Can you believe these are tulip fields? The artist Alex MacLean magically captures abstract images from a plane he flies. The artist sees the beauty of the land from above in particular focusing on man’s impact on the natural environment. The shots on one level display a sensitive selection of colors and shapes that seem abstract but on closer inspection the actual subject shows you a glimpse of an industry you have never seen such as massive amounts of shipping crates or mining landscapes. Please visit his website and to see his works and get a schedule of his appearances.

“Pilot and photographer Alex MacLean has flown his plane over much of the United States documenting the landscape.  Trained as an architect, he has portrayed the history and evolution of the land from vast agricultural patterns to city grids, recording changes brought about by human intervention and natural processes.  His powerful and descriptive images provide clues to understanding the relationship between the natural and constructed environments.”
